For Jan, feel better hon. And to all the Kaos fans, here he is. :D
Chapter 5
Roar watched his brother pace. He glanced down looking through the log book. His finger ran down the page until he got to the last entry: Calla Martin, One Night, Room 14, Calla's Books and Nooks. Roar smiled, cute name he thought. Calla's Books and Nooks must be the name of where she works. Roar looked up and shook his head; he'd messed up big time he thought as he watched his brother pass him one more time, while muttering. Roar's cell phone rang.
"Yello?"
"Don't you ever answer the phone like a normal person?"
Roar grinned, "What's up K-Man miss me? Having trouble with the ladies and need me to take some off your hands?"
Kaos laughed. "Yeah, sure and pig farts smell like cupcakes."
"Whoa, whoa, what you do in your own time dude is your business, I didn't need to know that." Roar could practically see his brother rolling his eyes.
"Listen, I'll be in town and I want to take you and Trace out to dinner, sound cool?" Roar looked over at Trace still pacing. He ran a hand through his hair and shook his head. He doubted Trace would be up to it until he found this Calla Martin chick.
"Trace, no can do, he's got issues." Roar stated.
Kaos raised an eyebrow, "What kind of issues?"
"The chick variety, what else?" replied Roar
Kaos smiled "What's the scale?"
Roar responded. "I'd give her a seven. She was really cute, brown eyes, dark brown hair, really nice skin, café colored. Seemed really nice and could handle Trace. You know, not let him take over too much."
"What'd you do?" Kaos asked suspiciously.
Roar took a deep breath, "What do you mean?"
"He's got issues" reminded Kaos, waiting for the pin to drop.
"Well . . . "Roar rubbed the back of his neck and grinned.”I walked in on them, I guess, afterward and well, I did my usual idiot routine and scared her off."
"Idiot" declared Kaos.
Roar rolled his eyes, "Yes, we know that; now can you tell the class something different?"
Kaos laughed. "I'll be in town in a few, don't do anything until I get there. I want to meet this woman."
"But I scared her off." Roar said confused.
"You'll find her. You're like a bloodhound you know. I'm sure by the time I get there you'll have a lead and we can fix your mistake." Kaos replied with confidence.
Roar smiled "Well, I already got something."
"Okay, but don't do anything until I get there. Got it?" ordered Kaos
Roar stood to attention "Yes sir, captain sir. Anything else sir?"
"No." Kaos said laughing.
"Hey, you bringing a girl along?" asked Roar
"Nope, just you, me, Trace and that mystery woman." Kaos replied
Roar’s confusion resurfaced. "You want to bring her to dinner with us?"
"Yeah, you just get Trace to agree to come to dinner okay?" Kaos responded with self-assurance.
"Got it" replied Roar, ending the conversation.
Three Hours Later
Calla paced back and forth in her office. Instead of heading to the shore, she went back into the city to her bookstore. If she had gone to the shore she would have had to tell Nora what happened. Then Nora would go off. The scene would play out with Nora screaming "WHAT!" and then grabbing her purse and hauling ass to the B & B to give Trace a piece of her mind. The question was why didn't she want Nora to go off on Trace? Because it's what she needed to do, right? She could still see the shocked look on that guy's face when he walked in and spoke those words, "I guess you're back to seducing guests again, huh?" She could feel the anger and disappointment build up inside of her again.
Calla had cleared her head when she had driven back into town, but now it became a swirl of memories of the time she had spent with Trace. There had been tenderness with him, caring and so much more. Her eyes welled with tears. She'd thought it impossible but she had felt something like love starting to blossom in her. Calla shoved that thought away too. It's impossible; love doesn't happen over night, it was just sex. That's it! But there were doubts there, she was so confused.
"Hey boss, the new shipment arrived, should I start unpacking it?" Talia burst through the door, not noticing the ‘Keep Out’ sign tacked up on the door. It was put up there when Calla didn't want to be disturbed. Distractedly she said, "Yeah, go ahead.”
She waved her off but Talia wouldn't leave. "What's wrong boss? Bad Saturday!”
Calla shook her head. "Not now.” She stood up and brushed passed Talia. She stopped short.
A man standing about Trace's height stood at a bookshelf browsing not far from her. The man that looked like the one she had met at the B & B, who had walked into Trace's room, was standing next to him. They were talking quietly. The man that was Trace's height turned and locked eyes with her. Same jade eyes yes but with silver in them and the hair was different. Long and black, done in tiny braids with red braided accents occasionally flashing when he moved his head. His right eyebrow was pierced with a small silver ring. He flashed her, a predatory smile, the same way Trace would. She felt her knees turn to jelly. B & B guy looked over at her and grinned while hitting the guy in the chest. Tall, Dark and Gorgeous didn't even turn to B & B guy; he was giving her the once over and Calla seemed to think he approved of her.
Tall, Dark and Gorgeous started to walk toward her. His walk had purpose and predator written all over it. He wore leather pants and motorcycle boots, a white T-shirt stretched tight to show the outline of muscles. She could see two circles outlined through the material as he walked toward her; she took a guess that he had his nipples pierced. This man screamed Alpha. She half-expected him to growl, any woman would submit to him. She straightened her back. "I see what you mean. She's very much a seven.” Tall, Dark and Gorgeous grinned when he got within a foot of her. His voice was low and slightly gravely. A shiver ran down her spine. She liked Trace's voice much better. It was less intimidating; more seductive.
Her eyes narrowed. "Seven?" She asked.
"Roar, he gave you a seven and I see what he means now. My brother was very lucky to catch you."
She bristled. "He didn't catch me."
He smiled, showing even white teeth. It was the smile of a predator. "Oh, but I believe he did, other women would be all over me or Dimwit here, but you," His eyes traveled over her body and she stiffened. "You aren't affected.”
She laughed. "Arrogant much?"
He laughed a deep laugh that many women and some men noticed, their eyes taking in every inch of him. "Dimwit, hey!" Roar cried out.
Kaos shook his head. "Oh, you are perfect for him. Come to dinner luv and we'll make this all better for the both of you? He really does like you, you know. He's such a loner. We started to think he was asexual."
Calla didn't respond. Kaos stepped forward, invading her personal space. She didn't step back much to her credit.
He brought his head forward, closer to hers. "If I say pretty please will you come?"
"I will, I know I will."
They both turned to see a blushing red-headed woman who just realized that she'd said that out loud. "Thank you kindly for letting me know that I still have it." He gave her a sweet smile and the woman started giggling.
Calla rolled her eyes. He turned back to her. "I assure you, it will be casual and we'll behave, especially Dimwit."
"Stop calling me that!" Roar hissed.
Kaos let out another laugh. "Oh before I go, I'm Kaos and this is Roar, just so you can't say we haven't been formally introduced. Welcome to the family, see you at dinner." He grinned, turned and walked away with Roar trailing him.
Calla didn't even ask them how they had found her or respond to their dinner invitation, frankly she didn't care. She wasn't going anywhere with them.
"I like her. She suits him." Kaos said, sliding into Roar's car.
"I knew you would, but did you have to flirt with her?" asked Roar.
Kaos laughed. "She wouldn't have taken the bait if I had been flirting with her or even trying to. Relax, I won't steal her from Trace, he deserves a good woman and I can see she is one. Stubborn, but we'll wear her down, won't we little brother?"
Roar rolled his eyes. Kaos and Trace were always treating like he was incompetent. "If you say so!" Roar wasn't so sure.
